Paws to Read - October 2008

Paws to Read
Saturdays in October
Sign up at the front desk today.

The Paws to Read program improves children’s reading and communication skills by giving them an opportunity to read to registered therapy dogs. The dogs volunteer, along with their owners, as reading companions for children.

Dogs make ideal reading partners because they have a relaxing effect on readers, they do not judge or criticize, and they allow readers to move at their own pace. The calm, comforting environment that dogs can provide opens a door to allow children to:
  • Improve their reading skills
  • Gain self-confidence when reading aloud
  • Enhance their love of reading
The dogs in our program are registered with Therapy Dogs International, Inc. They have been trained and tested for health, safety, appropriate skills and temperament.
